i have a lot of micro blog type shit i didn't have fit for in the last one and some new ones two. (those i've been pretty quiet typing shit out as i feel already drained by this busy season.) so, this one's going to be a micro blog re-cap, as i like to switch it up.
it's the month of monogatari. i've been re-reading to finally be able to catch up. i still enjoy the insane conversations. not much ''official'' media gets to do shit like senjo at the beginning of nise or just kanbaru at all. so many perfect one liners with that one.
i can't finish the books in one month, i failed when i originally did it. if i don't keep on my ass i'll be doing this re-read for like a year. i think i work well with one project a month type stuff.
i watched perfect days because when i heard the premise of the movie i went ''i didn't know they made movies about people like this.'' it's a gem, gentle autistic main character living his best life.
actually i think this is the second movie of this decade i've seen. (i just got into movies like 2-3 years ago lol, i've been catching up.)
the first movie was that kinda crappy finally eva movie. (i'm mixed on it.)
i got some foot injury so guess who gets an excuse to really be at the computer all weekend. i try to take walks or do some form of exercise on my off days. oh well, doing this to make sure my damn foot don't hurt. if i'm good, don't pace around my hardwood floor barefoot for an hour thinking about my next story idea or about finally making that shudo insomnia analysis video again, it should clear up.

i'm starting to really distrust the "save in the edit" line people been throwing around about movies. first off, editing the footage can never really ''save'' a movie. a movie or any work of fiction is due to dail or succeed by its script. or if you wanna get really technical the translation of the script to screen. the script and the script writer are the most important pieces to not only the existence of the film but the essence itself. directors are secondary, unless they were the script writer too, then its even better.
even if the non-script writer director was the most important thing, this whole conversation would still bother me. and really, it's all important. hell, i bet there's projects that DO end up being better because of their director, the only set art rule is takeshi shudo is the greatest author of all time, after all.
even if i held the opposite opinion to what i have, the whole ''saved in the edit'' thing would bother me all the same. people will see the film crew film multiple versions of a scene for movie, they have to pick on of them no shit, and will be say ''the edit saved it.'' like that wasn't the thing that was just going to happen. it'd be one thing if it was scenes that were down or switched around retroactivly. but people will see the natural film making process and think its the edit made that movie good. you've gotta be fucking kidding me.

instead, i came out of the whole mini retreat from my otaku ways with a deeper appreciation for the music i've been liking for a bit. rawer, messier, punk. stuff that sounds like it was recorded in someone's basement. and well, the weezer demos are more towards that. though i'd say more of an interesting curiosity. a lot of it i just don't have much interest in but then you get get an amazing song they did nothing with for some reasons while the album associated with it is boring.
also i listened to shellac's albums. i like them all but the first one is fucking great. i really like steve albini already, but this might be the best thing he worked on. (idk, though, he's done a lot of stuff.) honestly at action park is the closet a rock album has ever felt like a techno album. apparently i'm not the only person to think this, too. really. this one might actually take the top spot for 2nd favorite album of all time. (still too much sentimental value in MFZB.)

been stopping myself from getting into train sims because i don't know if its a good use of time. played a really old dos game jm 2 mechanic. i guess the cool thing about these games for me is just chilling and watching the little virtual world go by. i don't live where i can just take a train ride like that so the concept is novel to me. really, i thought it'd be cool to have a train game but the rail lines take place in 2kki/dream emulator type worlds. if i could actually do art and programming, maybe i'd have an artistic legacy seen as valid.
i like my art and writing, but at the end of the day its made for my hyper specific needs. my needs that 1. shudo's dead 2. shudo would be great at but probably would have never done anything like anyway. i'm thinking of writing infinite jest but like it's a first draft and never editing it. (because i never plan to show anyone. also the footnotes would be more like side comments than footnotes.) there would be a lot of 90s anime girls in it if i actually did this.
if someone has the brain to write otaku infinite jest, take the idea. i'm not smart enough to write in wallace's league.
the final fantasy games (i only care about the first seven) were on sale and decided to pick them up. 7 is beautiful, so beautiful. remake is not as good in terms of the story. (especially that first game where its desperately trying to stretch out midgar.) but its advantages are the extFra time we spend with the main cast, who didn’t lose their charm despite how different this game is.
also sephiroth is a fucking hilarious character. i find him to be truly tragic but also easy to be a bit silly with what he’s doing. dude’s got mommy issues. i love that despite the fact he’s genuinely heartbreaking and terrifying i can have some fun with him. Remake is amazing with this. every time he’s on screen and doing some gay shit like whispering into clouds ear i’m rolling. i goes more insane as there’s a chimerical where he’s doing this shit and trying to get cloud to eat some ramen… while wearing fox ears. i don’t think this is the intention and yeah he’s still scary too. much love.
also 97 ff7 has class S art direction, the remake can’t keep up since it has to look 2020s AAA. lots of charm and distinct artistic creativity is zapped with the change in style. i’ve been spending my new playthrough just looking at those backgrounds. there's so much detail in that shit. its crazy some of the designs they came up with for the midgar slums.
the pokemon games shoulda ripped this style.
to be real, i respect this game’s story and think its one of the greats this is just not the blog to go into deets on it.
